What is the name of a software, which can be used to install odd software safely?

The software acts like a secondary desktop, in which you can istall all odd looking software without being effected by any virus'. And when you are done you simply delete the 'desktp'. Any ideas?

That's called a virtual machine. Microsoft sells one, so does vmware.
