You really should kick the Dell to the curb and pick up a lovely iMac or MacBook Pro. Now that Macs can run Windows, too, you'll never have to worry about compatibility. From all of the reviews I've read, Final Cut Studio is the way to go, but you'll need that nifty Macintosh.

Your greatest gains in speed will probably come from maintenance (defraging, clearing your system tray, deletion of unneeded files, etc.) but if you still want some software to play with there's an accelerator called Modem Booster. Dial-up is the slowest connection I know of. The best thing you can do is keep your RAM as free as possible. Dump desktop wallpaper and screensaver, and load only those programs you need every day.
To clean up your startup menu:

If you have WindowsXP, you're all set. All that's required is a little time and regular maintenance:

No, he does not have to install the software on the second computer. Just hook it straight to the router. Just be sure to hook up the phone line filters as specified in the instructions. They allow you to make and receive phone calls while staying connected to the internet. I hope this is helpful.
If it is not set up as a net work, the router is basically a splitter. As long as there are no fire wall issues you should be able to just plug in the cat5 Ethernet cable and be online.

The main reasons to make software open source as I see it are:
1) You can use GPL code in your project. There are an awful lot of GPL libraries out there, and can help you deliver your projects much quicker, but only if your project is open source too.
2) You're looking for outside developers to help work on the project for no charge. Problem here is that your project must be interesting for other developers to care.
3) You're targeting open source operating systems. There is a prejudice against closed source software running on linux.
4) You're after personal recognition from your peers.
Only advantage is for the community following the project to help with their thoughts and time in developing a more robust application. While this is a kind idea and all, it normally results in 1/2 par programmers writing defunct code and wasting even more time.

Real-action movies or tv shows often use 'tricks' such as green-screen, wires, and whatnot. The software they use for pure CGI animations vary -- each prefers something different.
For mixing movies and taking advantage of the green-screen shots, you can use After Effects or Premiere, or something similar, such as Sony Vegas Pro.

Best software is without a doubt: Photoshop! It's what every graphic designer use (among many other graphic design software such as QuarkXpress and illustrator) ... but for what you want to do, you'd want Photoshop.
You can use other free programs to do what you'd like to do, but Photoshop is by far the best program.
As for software for invitation cards .... You can use photoshop for this as well ... but if you want a program with templates, Microsoft Publisher is a good one.

You shouldn't even need Dreamweaver (which is very expensive) - try KompoZer, which is Open Source, thus free, and does almost everything that Dreamweaver does.
You might also need a photo editor if you're going to do complicated things with the pictures, but you can get pretty good results from Picasa, which is also free.
I'd suggest you begin with the free products, and see how it goes. If your site starts making money, you can always invest in other software if you think you need it.
Dreamweaver does have image editing capabilities, but they are very limited. I would suggest you have some type of graphics/photoediting software to make your images more web friendly. You do not need illustrator or directory or photoshop for that matter. Any image editing software will do fine.
You can download gimp free and it will work for what you need, provided you already have your images and just need to resize/compress/save in different format...etc.
If you need to create images/logo's etc.......I would suggest you download a trial version of paint shop pro, if you choose to buy the software, it costs a lot less than photoshop and has all of the capabilities....It is often referred to as a poor man's photoshop. This poor man uses it, lol.

Having an ecommerce website is a little more complicated than just whipping something up in Dreamweaver or any other HTML editor.
The simplest thing for you or anyone to do would be to sign up with some sort of established commerce hosting site. I believe Ebay does certain things like that as well as here on Yahoo. You can create an online tore and have them do the credit card transactions etc.. etc..
You could also look into setting up your own complete website with already proven software like OScommerce. It's a whole drop in site that you can setup on any webhosting provider and add your products and images to, etc..
You don't need any software to create a website. If you learn to write HTML code you can create a website using just Notepad.
Try to use Windows Movie Maker 2.6 that comes with windows vista.

Gimp is pretty much the free version of Photoshop.... so that means it is on a lower level, but it is really good for a freeware. Corel has a lot of good brushes to draw with.I recommend using this for the actual drawing and using Photoshop to edit it make it even better.
The best one out there is probably adobe illustrator CS3 or CS4. It's like photoshop except that it's more focused on digital artwork vs. editing pictures like in photoshop. But both programs are tricky to use at first so you'll obviously need to familiarise yourself with it through the online tutorials.
Dont forget to sketch the traditional way too...

Testers usually use testing software that will run "test cases". A test case runs your program, send input and makes sure the output is what you expected. Testers also make new test cases: they enter the input to send and the results they expect from your program. There are also testing programs that can use a GUI : they tell the OS to act as if a button was clicked, or as if text were typed, etc.
When the program has been tested and you want to sell it to customers (because we all like making money), you can make an installer for it. Software from companies like InstallShield is popular for doing this. The installer contains a copy of your program, and knows how to copy all of the files onto the computer. You can burn the installer onto a CD and send it to people. Or put it in a ZIP file and put it on your web site for download.
Code in any language can be made into a library, where you provide documentation on the functions that can be called (or the objects that can be used) in the library. In PhotoShop, you can select the blue eyes and then go to "Select" and inverse the selection. Now everything but the blue eyes will be selected. You then go under Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and desaturate everything. That will turn everything to black and white except the eyes.

OK, there's an example for you. There are other ways to achieve this result, but I this worked really fast. You can also change the color -- make everything black and white but give him red eyes.

What I do re-create this effect is to highlight what I want in colour and copy it then greyscale the rest, and then take the copy of what I want (still in its original colour) and place it back over the greyed version.
I've used Photoshop and to me its about the same equivalent as PhotoDraw. I could've/should've/would've explored a little more and probably will, but for now PhotoDraw does what I want.
Picasa from Google has a similar effect but it does not allow you to pick a specific item, nor a shape. It does it in an expanding circle like tool.
So I would recommend either Microsoft PhotoDraw or Adobe PhotoShop to do this. If you find something else that does it, great. I'd like it myself, lol.

Linux can read the data on NTFS partitions or FAT partitions - you don't need any special software.
Which type of windows partition is it ?
If its FAT32, then just type sudo mount /dev/sda1 in terminal and you will have your partition on desktop
If its NTFS, use a new linux build like Open Suse 10.3 and follow the steps above.
Everyone has their own favorite Linux Distro (except I like to be spoiled and will gladly tell you what is wrong with whichever one I am using most at the moment). Some distros read NTFS. Some don't. My first link tells you how to mount a vfat file system onto Red Hat Linux 9.0. That's an older distro, though I have it around here somewhere. The information is still applicable to most distros, and still relevant. What you do is you make a directory you can mount it to, and mount it. To mount it automatically, you edit your /etc/fstab configuration file (CAREFULLY AND BACK IT UP FIRST -- period) by adding a line which tells the computer to read it and what the file format is. I'll let you read it.
The second link, for Ubuntu, is more elaborate but even better. It tells you how to find out what your partition is called by the operating system and what its file format is (with fdisk -l which is not Ubuntu-specific) and how to mount it (assuming you have already created the directory you are mounting it to). Used to be, drives were mounted to the /mnt directory. These days, they are mounted to the /media directory, unless you specify otherwise. On my old Dual Boot I specified the windows partition be mounted to my root directory (/). You can put it in /home/ if you want (though it may cause a few problems with permissions). It's pretty straightforward and you don't have to edit /etc/fstab unless you want the system to mount it for you automatically at boot.

There are many programs that do that, not just one virus. technically, it's not even called a virus, it's a keylogger.

Make sure to download the personal version, it is free. That will protect you until you finally remove the keylogger with the programs I mentioned at the start.

Read the back of the box. Read the specs. If it says something like Windows XP SP2 or later, then as long as the computer's XP or Vista, it will work.
If the first one's Windows, and the second one's Mac, then no. It won't work.
You need to read the licensing restrictions in the terms of use for the software. Although, physically you should be able to load the software to several computers you own, legally you are normally only allowed to load the program on to one computer.
If you upgraded your computer and you remove the software from your older computer you are normally within legal parameters.

Don't go there. Penalties are too severe.
There is no software that can "bypass" the encryption.
You can crack the encryption, but that can take weeks, months and sometimes years to crack it.
Just live with what you have got.
Its illegal to connect to a network which you don't own. That is classes as hacking. Police can easily track people who do that and I would advise you not to do it.
Each Network Interface Card has unique MAC Address.
All the components in the computer have a ROM which stores the serial number of the product. So the Motherboard etc. have a serial number which can be retrived.
The OS stores all these details during installation and during activation. The serial key is responsible for protectiting software piracy along with the activation which determin the HOME of the OS.
The activation has some threshold limitations.
Windows Product Activation (WPA) checks 10 hardware details
Display Adapter
SCSI Adapter
IDE Adapter (effectively the motherboard)
Network Adapter (NIC) and its MAC Address
RAM Amount Range (i.e., 0-64mb, 64-128mb, etc.)
Processor Type
Processor Serial Number
Hard Drive Device
Hard Drive Volume Serial Number (VSN)
CD-ROM / CD-RW / DVD-ROM
It then calculates and records a number based on the first device of each type that was found during setup, and stores this number on your hard drive. Initially, this is sent to Microsoft in an automatic dial-up, together with the Product ID number derived from the 25-character unique Product Key used in setting up Windows.
The hardware is checked each time Windows boots, to ensure that it is still on the same machine. Also, if you subsequently perform a complete format and reinstall of Windows, Microsoft’s activation center will have to be contacted again because the information held on the machine itself (the number previously written to your hard drive) will have been wiped out by reformatting the hard drive. If your hardware is substantially the same, this will be done by an automated call without your needing to talk to anyone.
What does ‘substantially the same’ mean? WPA asks for ‘votes’ from each of these ten categories: ‘Is the same device still around, or has there never been one?’ Seven Yes votes means all is well â€" and a NIC, present originally and not changed, counts for three yes votes! Minor cards, like sound cards, don’t come into the mix at all. If you keep the motherboard, with the same amount of RAM and processor, and an always present cheap NIC (available for $10 or less), you can change everything else as much as you like.
If you change the device in any category, you have lost that Yes vote â€" but will not lose it any more thereafter if you make changes in that category again. So, for example, you can install a new video display card every month for as long as you like.
Note that it appears that if you boot with a device disabled (disabled â€" not removed), the device is not found in the enumeration â€" so if, say, you disable a network connection which uses the NIC and then reboot, you may be missing its three votes and find that a new activation is needed. If you are doing such things, take the Hint 3 in What about formatting a hard disk? below, and restore the files concerned once the NIC is back in service.
What if I make too many changes?
If, on Windows startup, there are not the required seven Yes votes, the system will, in the original version of Windows XP, only boot to Safe Mode. You will be required to reactivate by a phone call to Microsoft. You will have to write down a 50-digit number, call into the activation center on a toll-free number that will be given to you, read and check back the number you recorded â€" and explain the circumstances. In exchange, you will be given a 42-digit number to type in. This will reactivate your copy of Windows.
This is made easier if Windows XP Service Pack 1 has been installed: The system will continue to boot normally for three days, during which time you will be able to contact the activation center via the net. If the extra changes have been removed, or if 120 days have passed since the original activation, you will be able to use the automatic process once more
What about formatting a hard disk?
Two things are recorded for disks: the number of the disk drive itself, and the Volume Serial Number (VSN) of the partition on it.
HINT No. 1: The VSN is part of the data in the partition’s first sector, so it is changed when you reformat the drive. It is worth getting the freeware utility Volume ID to restore the original VSN. Before you reformat, run VOL from a Command Prompt, note the VSN (e.g., 1F2E-3C4B) in the second line. Then, after the reformat and new Windows XP installation, defer the new activation until you have run Volume ID to restore the old VSN, and rebooted. This is not essential â€" but it saves one of the ‘Yes votes’ against any future hardware change. (If you don’t wish to run this utility, the next best way to obtain the same result would be to delete the old Win XP files from the hard drive before reinstalling, rather than actually reformatting.)
HINT No. 2: Another thing that changes the VSN is converting a FAT 32 partition to NTFS. So, if you upgrade a system using FAT 32 to Windows XP and intend to convert to NTFS, do the conversion before activating the system. Remember, you can wait a while: you have 30 days before you need to activate. The machine’s hardware at the time of the first activation is what counts. Or, if you have already activated, use Volume ID as described in Hint No. 1. If you are doing this after activation, also first back up the WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK files, as described in Hint No. 3 below, and, after completion of the conversion, restore these files and reboot again.
HINT No. 3: It is valuable to back up the two files WPA.DBL and WPA.BAK from the Windows\System32 folder.Then, should they get damaged, or should you do a ‘Repair’ reinstallation of Win XP, these files can be copied back to restore the prior activation status. However, this only works in those limited circumstances. The contents of these two files is matched to the specific Windows setup; therefore, contrary to what many journalists and members of the user community have written in recent months, restoring these files will not restore your activation status following a reformat and clean install.
The disk drive and partition recorded will be the ones that the system has found first when doing the initial activation: normally the one from which the system booted. So, if you change that disk and reinstall Windows to a new partition, you have lost two of the Yes votes. If, though, you add a new hard disk, copy the original partition onto it with an imaging program, and retain the original hard drive as a secondary data disk, it will still be found by a later check. This is because it searches for all disks, and the vote will be Yes in both categories if it finds the original one, with the partition not reformatted.
If you change the harddisk, yes you can reinstall the OS.
technically, you can install the OS, office etc, on another computer. however that may be considered software piracy since you did not purchase a license for use on the other computer. remember you normally supposed slap anauthenticity sticker somewhere on the cpu? that sticker contains the license for use on THAT computer. if you want to install on another computer you will (legally speaking) need to purchase another license.
normally once the software (particularly the OS) is installed it makes a list of the computer components and saves it in whats called a registry. if you try to copy the OS (including the registry) onto a different harddisk or another computer with entirely different components, the OS will fail to load and will most likely crash since the OS thinks its trying to run components that are existing but are actually different or not there at all.
Adobe photoshop 7.0 or higher, been using it in my design work for years and its top class stuff!
besided Adobe Photoshop, there is also Adobe Photo Elements which is very helpful
Photoshop (either 7 or PSCS or any version) is the top of the image working heap. Very expensive and big learning curve. PS's little brother, Elements, is as much program as most people need for a fraction of the cost. Try whatever the newest version of Elements is first. If it's not enough, you can always upgrade to the full version later.
Also Microsoft Digital Imaging Suites isn't too shabby.

Adobe Photoshop 7, as stated above, or the new Paint Shop Pro. 10 or 11. Cant remember...The new psp retails for about £90. Or, try downloading the GIMP. It's nearly as good as Adode CS2, and is free.
If you want to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop without spending the big money for the full product, get Photoshop Elements 5.0. It is a tremendously powerful program and it only sells for $99.00. You can get it at http://www.adobe.com or any of the usual places you buy software.
You can use it practically right out of the box with the "Quick Fix" option and then you can advance into the full program, learning TONS about the Photoshop world as you go. Frankly, I think neither you nor I would ever explore the full capabilities of Photoshop Elements 5.0. If you ever DO think you are ready for more, you will already know much of what you will need to know about "real" Photoshop. They'll undoubtedly have a new and improved version by then. Since Nikon just came out with a totally new image editting package, Adobe will have to step up to the plate.
Many people use Picasa, although I have not. I don't know how powerful it is, but it's free.

i know that a lot of people would say go buy photoshop which is a smart idea but its really hard to figure out & its really expensive i personally use paint shop pro & irfan view

If your new to photo editing you will only require Photoshop Elements 5.0, this is extremely useful but may take time to master. Photoshop CS is kinda only for professionals or semi-pro.
I asked myself this question when I changed to Digital a few years ago, and I have found that Photoshop Elements, reasonably priced, does all that I need.

I"m pretty sure there is no such program because every picture is different from the next. At least I have not come across one yet.
There is a filter on Adobe Photoshop called Stamp that may have a cartoon feel to it but it's not the best.
So, i suggest trying pen[cil?] and paper or take your time and use a photo editing program.
